Dear Brethren of Couples For Christ Singapore,
May the Peace & Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you and your families. We praise and thank God the Father for all His many blessings and grace upon us as a community.
We have been blessed much in the year 2019. Our CFC Thanksgiving Event on 30th November was a fitting tribute and honour as we gave thanks through the theme of the Beatitudes taught by His Son Jesus Christ. We now prepare our hearts for His coming at Holy Christmas.
“As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. They did not know until the flood came and carried them all away.
Therefore, stay awake!
For you do not know on which day your Lord will come. So too, you also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.” (Matt 24)
Jesus tells his disciples to “Be watchful! Be alert!,” because “you do not know when the time will come.” And so during this season of Advent, we too must prepare ourselves for the coming of the Lord. It is a time given to us to welcome the Lord who comes to meet us, to verify our desire for God, to look ahead and prepare ourselves for the return of Christ.
So it was with John the Baptist who appeared, preaching in the desert of Judea and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” It was of him that the prophet Isaiah had spoken when he said:
A voice of one crying out in the desert, Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.” (Matt 3)
We are God’s creatures made in His own image out of love. So we lovingly offer ourselves up to him, especially during Advent, to be stronger in our relationship with, and do the will of God the Father. It is a time of fasting from excessive personal or worldly desires or pleasures, and of cleansing ourselves to be pleasing and acceptable for His coming again.
And as we look forward to receiving Christ at Christmas, it is also a celebration of light because Christ is the light of the world, the epiphany of God, the manifestation of God’s love and mercy to all. Let’s desire to encounter the Lord Jesus joyfully during the Advent season in prayer and meditation.
On behalf of the National Council, we wish you and your families a Spiritual Advent and a Blessed & Holy Christmas!
